About

Who We Are

Shikshanuragi United Association is mainly an united forum of teachers, staff of educational institutions and educational enthusiasts. A large number of teachers and staff of educational institutions and government employees are often recruited as polling officers in Panchayat, Municipal, Assembly and Parliamentary Election. But the day of May 14th 2018 on which West Bengal Panchayat Election was held, in all over 56000 booths in Bengal, left a permanent scar on their mind. With only one armed police along with a civic volunteer were the security arrangements for a booth in the said election. The polling officers faced tremendous physical and mental harassment from goons of political parties. Police and administration were deaf to the cry of polling personel. With at least 25 deaths all over Bengal , booth captured, voting materials depleted, life threatened - they went through the loads of torments and agony. Some of them had to be hospitalised. But real horror was yet to come as it was found soon thatRajkumar Roy, then a teacher of Rahatpur High Madrasa, Uttar Dinajpur was found dead after being missing on his duty as preciding officer of Sonarpur Primary School (booth number 36, 48 Itahar Assembly Constituency) for more than 24 hours. His mutilated body was found on rail tracks over 30 km away from his polling station. the whole state polity, administration and police was mute about the cause of such disturbing and horrible incidents. This is when teachers and staff irrespective of various political affiliations started gathering and protesting against this whole conspiracy of making pay by innocents' blood for the business of dirty politics, on social media and on streets. At Raigaunj, Uttar Dinajpur, some of the agitators were booked under baseless non- bailable IPC sections. The whole Bengal roared " From Kakdwip to Kochbihar / Each one of us is a Rajkumar. "

On 24th May, dahole Kolkata saw an unprecedented gathering of over 5000 persons from educated community- teachers, doctors, other staff assembled ignoring the scorching heat to seek justice for Late Rajkumar Roy, to stand by the protesters of Raigaunj and to declare " No security no Polling Duty" . Soon it was felt that to fulfill these demands, an united movement based on an apolitical political structure is needed. Also considering the present socio political scenario of Bengal to safeguard the dignity security and rights of teachers and stuff such a forum of vix populi of the educated community is highly needed. Therefore on 7th June 2018 at Sir Asutosh College Hall of Kolkata, at a convention of around 500 people, the advent of this association commenced.

From then on our organisation has become a trusted non political association of educational enthuasiasts to take part in the movement of Security in the election, or in the reopening of schools and other educational institutions after the covid pandemic as well as the professional demands of the teachers and staff of the Secondary schools and also against the corruption in the recruitment process of teachers and staff depriving the worthy and real talents . After registration we became known as "SIKSHANURAGI UNITED ASSOCIATION, BALICHAK"(SUA) and in Bengali Sikshanuragi Oikya Mancha ( শিক্ষানুরাগী ঐক্য মঞ্চ).
